Try to maintain a healthy body weight and take exercise regularly – even if it’s just a good walk!
A healthy body weight and exercising are both very important in controlling blood pressure. If you are overweight, just a small weight loss can significantly improve high blood pressure. Regular exercise (with a physician’s approval) is important in helping you lose weight and maintain weight loss.
This helps keep blood pressure down. Keeping a healthy body weight doesn’t have to mean visiting a gym and being on a permanent diet. In fact being on the wrong type of diet can be a bad thing in the long term. Try to find a sensible balance by eating a variety of different healthy foods and taking small amounts of exercise everyday.
If you are obese, then start with a short easy exercise and very gradually it build up.
a 10 minute walk, a 15 minute walk, a 30 minute fast walk, etc. Try to find a type of exercise that you like (or at least don’t hate), the most important thing is to STICK to it. It’s a lifestyle change, not something you do for a few weeks then give up.
